Sources & corrections
All official facts on this page were last verified 2026-10-28 against the linked National Park Service and Recreation.gov pages. Park rules change; confirm before you go.
Where sources disagree
- In-park lodging reopening: the NPS lodging page gives no reopening date. Xanterra's alerts page (updated Oct 28, 2026) extends South Rim lodge closures through Nov 19, 2026, with stays moved to Nov 20 arrival. Xanterra says Phantom Ranch is closed through at least Jan 31, 2027, while NPS says there is 'no estimated reopening'.
- Mather dump station and restrooms: Recreation.gov lists a free dump station at Camper Services, but the NPS Operations Update (Oct 19, 2026) says Camper Services is closed. The April 1, 2026 Stage 3 notice said restrooms and the RV dump and water station stayed open, but the Stage 4 restrictions in effect since Aug 31, 2026 replaced it.
- Mather first-come sites: the NPS Operations Update says 15 first-come sites are sold daily at 8 am. A user-submitted Campendium report says 10. The NPS figure is used here.
- North Rim Campground 2026 season: Recreation.gov says it reopened June 1, 2026. The NPS camping page says it was open May 15 - Oct 15 before the fire. Earlier 2026 NPS pages planned a May 15, 2026 limited North Rim reopening.
- North Rim fall access: the NPS camping page describes 'limited fall day-use operations' Oct 15 - Nov 30, 2026. The North Rim status page says 'OPEN through Nov. 30, 2026'. The conditions page says 'Limited Fall Day-use Only' and 'scenic roads closed for repair through November 3'.
- Desert View 2026 season: the NPS camping page gives April 11 - Oct 18, 2026. Recreation.gov gives no 2026 dates, and an older AAA listing gives Oct 11 as the last night.
- The NPS fees page still lists 2025 dates for the Desert View and North Rim campground reservation requirements.
- The backcountry permit page's lottery schedule table gives general-access dates (around the 18th-20th) that conflict with its text saying general access starts on the 1st of the following month.
- The NPS South Rim camping page (cg-sr.htm) still says Havasupai is closed 'through September 30, 2024', which is outdated.
